Who We Are

1. Background

Light Global Mission Church (LGMC) was established in March 1998.

It has its origin in Sunday afternoon Bible Study gathering of the members of Global Mission Church of Greater Washington (GMCGW). Rev. Daniel D. Lee started and taught for years for those coming from Virginia. Meeting from apartment community centers in Northern Virginia, it grew into Sunday worship service for Virginia residents. After Rev. Lee left for Korea to start a new church, there was a strong push for a new church in Virginia.

In December 1st of 1996, Virginia parish of GMCGW rented space from Falls Church High School and started a new ministry to start a new church.

In March 1998, Global Mission Church of Virginia was birthed. At the installation service, Rev. Biily Kim delivered sermon and Rev. Man-poong Kim delivered benediction.

In March 2000, GMCVA merged with Light Mission Church, which was established in 1972 to become Light Global Mission Church.

2. Mission

The mission of Light Global Mission Church is "to turn the unchurched into fully devoted desciples of Christ."

"Leading the unchurched into a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ."

Mission defines who we are. The mission defines LGMC as body of Christ, church.

Mission shows the direction LGMC will proceed. As a pointer of direction, mission is not a concrete goal to be accomplished in a definite time. Therefore the mission can be described with a process. As a process, mission can be described as an endless process that produces constant stream of devoted disciples of Christ.

3. Purposes

There are five purposes of Light Global Mission Church. These are to worship, to build a community, to pursue spiritual growth, to serve church and to serve the world.

A mission defines LGMC as a body of Christ. The five purposes defines LGMC as a local church with a congregation. With one or more of five purposes missing, they will not clearly express the full figure of a local church.

The five fold purposes are functions a local church must perform whenever and where ever its congregation gathers together.

4. Vision

LGMC has 9 sets of visions.

A vision is a long term goal of LGMC. They are goals expected to be achieved in 10 to 20 year span.

It is called a vision because it is achievable only if God intervenes while a goal can be achieved by plans and projections and hard works.

  1. We want to be a church where the hurt, the helpless, the lost, the sick, the broken people can come to receive help, spritual as well as professional.

5. Core Values

Core Values are what we take most important in our ministry.
